Lucid Motors Gravity: 800-hp premium all-electric SUV

After winning the 2023 World Luxury Car Award for its Lucid Air sedan, newbie American electric car company Lucid Motors has announced its latest creation: an 800-hp, full-size, seven-seat SUV called Gravity that is claimed to go 440 miles on a single charge.

Times have been tough for Lucid due to softened demand for their Air sedan (and many EVs overall) this year, but Gravity could put the company back on track due to its class-leading performance in many categories and significant design standouts like a single-piece glass roof panel that stretches all the way down front to become the windshield and a super-luxe interior. The Lucid design team's focus on efficiency has led to a target coefficient of drag of less than 0.24³, an aerodynamic profile unsurpassed by other three-row SUVs. Gravity also sports a commanding presence supported by a substantial frunk, sleek profile, elongated cabin, pronounced shoulders, and a sporty tail spoiler.

Gravity's next-gen, proprietary, ultra-compact powertrain technology includes "the most power-dense EV motors in production globally," according to its makers. It runs on a 900-V electrical architecture. Lucid says the SUV will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 sec. It has a payload capacity of over 1,500 lb and an additional 6,000 lb of towing capacity. Lucid says it has a "smaller, lighter, more sustainable battery pack" that can be charged to 200 miles of range in about 15 minutes using fast charging. We will see how the numbers hold up when the first models hit the road in 2024.

Gravity's performance also extends beyond paved roads with the introduction of Lucid's Zero Gravity optional air suspension package, which automatically adapts to various terrain needs, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride on any surface. In-vehicle controls can also make manual adjustments to raise Gravity to maximize off-road capability or lower it to maximize performance and range.

Inside, Gravity impresses with ample and flexible cargo areas. The cabin offers spacious seating, with the added convenience of second- and third-row seats that fold flat to reveal more than 112 cubic ft of total usable cargo space. The sliding second row seats combine with integrated convenience tables for an elevated back-seat experience. More-than-adequate legroom is carried through to the third row, enabling a comfortable seven-passenger configuration that makes Gravity an ideal vehicle for all kinds of adventures.

The SUV features meticulously chosen materials, exceptional fit and finish, and thoughtfully placed accents. Gravity represents a definitive evolution of Lucid's user interface, called Clearview Cockpit, featuring an intuitive 34-in. curved and uninterrupted OLED display that floats above the vehicle's innovative new steering wheel, closely matched with the driver's line of sight.

Lucid's Pilot Panel provides a quick-access touch bar and sits alongside a new glass center console that elegantly slides open for additional storage. The SUV also introduces Lucid's next-gen software with over-the-air updates, ensuring continued vehicle improvement.

Official final pricing has not been released, but Lucid Motors says Gravity will start at under $80,000. Production is expected to begin in late 2024.
